Mozart's Dining Room

Mazzio's Catering has been a family owned and operated business for more than 30 years. Since 1990, Mazzio's has grown to become one of Pittsburgh's best-known catering companies. Employees are friendly and the work atmosphere is excellent. If you want to dine at one of the Pittsburgh area's most popular restaurants, I recommend checking out Mazzio's.

Recently, they've expanded their offerings with twenty-four new pizzas and two new sandwiches. The basic ingredients remain the same. This is just another way Mazzio's continues to succeed as one of Pittsburgh's best casual dining restaurants. They offer many different kinds of pizzas, pasta dishes, salad offerings, and even dessert for those happy customers who don't dine with us often.

Two of their newest sandwiches are the tuna sandwich and the BLT sandwich. Both are large deli style sandwiches with choice of tomato, olive oil, mushrooms, and bacon or ham. Both are wrapped in a delicious tomato and olive oil shell.


In addition to these two new entrees, Mazzio's also serves several kinds of pasta dishes on their expanded menu. Their clam chowder is made with three types of noodles and a beef and seafood base. It's served with a traditional clam base, which makes it unique. The other pasta dishes they serve include penne, fettuccine Alfredo, tagliatelle, conchiglie, and scampi.

For their breakfast menu, they serve the traditional toasted, cheddar, or Swiss, as well as numerous variety of fresh and toast breads including whole wheat, corn, and freshly toasted. I particularly like their toasted bagel sandwich. It's served on a toasted bagel with a choice of one of their amazing egg dishes such as the Tomato Basil Spinach, or one of their savory pastrami and garlic-stuffed mushrooms. They also serve a wide selection of pasta salad that includes Tomato Basil Collardolli, toasted mushrooms, or any other of their signature pasta dishes. For dessert, they serve up the traditional Chocolate Pecan pie, which is their only traditional recipe, along with a special chocolate sauce and whipped topping.

In the dining room, you'll find a full sitting area for breakfast and lunch, and a separate bar area for private dinners and snacks. Unlike other pizza chains, however, Mazzio's accommodates larger parties with their extensive buffet spread, which includes pasta, salad, soup, sides, drinks, and even an open fire pizza. I especially love their half pizza small size appetizer sampler; it contains a variety of cheeses, sausage, and other Italian specialty ingredients perfect for a full meal. This is just a quick sampling of some of the fantastic food you can expect at this wonderful establishment.

Desserts are served all day, with many different options such as a chocolate truffle cake, angel food cake, and much more. I particularly love their giant triple pound cake, which is large enough to feed an entire family; and they offer a large variety of toppings to add to it. Along with dessert, they also offer coffee, tea, and chocolate pudding for those late night treats.

In the late afternoon, it's time for the popular Mozart happy hour. Mozart's famous for his romantic style of music, and this happy hour paves the way for their creamy margaritas, which are topped with a delicious spicy sauce made with garlic oil, capers, and other Italian spices. One of my favorites is their spinach & mushroom caviar. It has an incredible flavor and is dressed with a light golden sauce that is rich and creamy; perfect for the summer months. Another favorite is their buffalo cauliflower soup with a tangy lemon dressing. Other side dishes include their creamy almond chicken, and their traditional baked potato.

" Mazzi's Pizzas and Sandwiches " is a monthly offering from Giordana, the pizza restaurant owned and operated by Fabio Mazzi. Giordana owns multiple locations in Rome, London, Tokyo, Singapore, Dubai and New York City, among many other cities around the world. The company was founded in 1992 and has thus far achieved phenomenal growth rates. They have also experienced significant declines in the quality of their products at times, although this issue has been resolved with the passage of time. Giordana produces a variety of pizzas and sandwiches using traditional Italian cooking techniques, using organic ingredients whenever possible.  Zio, a relative newcomer to the pizza scene, made its presence felt with its opening in the Greater Los Angeles area last year. With several locations in California and one each in Florida and Massachusetts, it seems that it is a growing franchise. The question remains whether or not it will succeed. Will it be a success that captures the imagination of the area's Italian community and drives past-due pizza franchises to its local competitors?
